JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a motivated Junior Cost Accountant to join our operations and finance teams in Rochester, NY.  The candidate would work with the Operations and Finance departments to create and maintain the Cost Accounting System, successfully supporting the company’s pilot manufacturing facility and corporate operations.  For the right candidate, the position would have a range of responsibilities including drafting of reports and management of the Inventory Control System and General Ledger.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Minimum of 2 years of Accounting in a manufacturing environment;

  • Strong cost systems background, excellent analytical skills, and sound understanding of accounting principles;

  • Able to develop successful working relationships across all departments;

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required;

  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or ERP systems a plus.

  • Progress toward CPA designation preferred. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain Cost Accounting System and assist with the management of the ERP System;

  • Create the bill of materials for each manufactured item using actual and factored costs;

  • Generate daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as requested;

  • Oversee month-end close of General Ledger and accurate account reconciliations;

  • Analyze plant financial date to quantify cost savings opportunities and to support Operations with implementing cost reduction initiatives;

  • Assist with manufacturing budgets and standard costs;

  • Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor;

  • Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost;

  • Analyze actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs;

  • Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures;

  • Analyze audits of costs and preparing reports;

  • Make estimates of new and proposed product costs;

  • Generate reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services;

  • Conduct physical and fixed asset inventories and monitor cycle count program;

  • Lead purchasing of raw product and secondary ingredients, coordinating with Operations and Production to plan and stock accordingly;

  • Forecast raw material and packaging material needs;

  • Conduct yourself in accordance with company values, policies, and expectations.

COMPENSATION AND POSITION DETAILS

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.  Compensation commensurate with experience.
