JOB SUMMARY

Currently, we are looking for a talented, motivated, interdisciplinary individual to launch and lead food safety and QA for the company’s new food manufacturing facility in Rochester, NY.  For the right candidate, the position would have a range of responsibilities from drafting and executing food safety plans to overseeing quality assurance in the processing plant with room for growth and development within the organization.  We are seeking a dedicated, thoughtful individual with the creativity to tackle the novel projects that come with innovative food processing, an attraction to the high-paced, multifaceted start-up environment, and enthusiasm to join the organization at this early stage.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • 4+ years of QA/QC related industry experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP and GMP's practices

  • SQF/PCQI/BRC and/or Better Process Control Certifications

  • Comprehensive knowledge of USDA, FDA and US government regulations, statistics, statistical process control, quality standards, production methods, microbiology, and food processing

  • Supervisory experience, management education, and/or demonstrated planning, organizing, goal setting, controlling, self-development, decision making, and presentation skills

  • Proficiency in one or more of the GFSI schemes

  • A Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years of relevant experience is required.  A Master’s degree or higher in Food Science, Microbiology or a similar field is preferred. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Safety and Quality Control

  • Define quality standards and metrics for Farther Farms’ processing facility; direct the Quality Assurance functions to ensure consistent, high-quality product, costs control, food safety, and plant sanitation

  • Implement and maintain compliance with Global Food Safety Initiative Standards and QA/QC standards

  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with Food Safety Plan, HACCP, prerequisite programs, RTE standards, and manufacturing facility regulatory quality requirements

  • Maintain records of product quality checks, preventive controls, and prerequisite programs

  • Oversee all plant Quality Assurance Training Procedures, specifications, and equipment use; train employees on Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other chemicals/hazardous ingredients as they are introduced; Identify and coordinate training needs for plant personnel as needed; communicate food quality standards to plant personnel through training, corrective action, quality audits, and production and facility monitoring

  • Conduct and initiate inspections of all plant areas for sanitation and safety purposes under HACCP guidelines; prepare programs and perform internal audits; present all necessary documentation during internal and external audits

  • Assure compliance with the company’s sanitation SOP’s and customer, State, and Federal laws and guidelines

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing operations, end-products, raw materials, packaging materials, and quality specifications and standards

  • Maintain appropriate supplier relationships and evaluate supplier performance

  • Serve as SQF Practitioner and site Preventive Controls Qualified Individual

  • Work with the CTO to set quality standards for new products and new technologies

COMPENSATION AND POSITION DETAILS

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.  Compensation commensurate with experience.
