JOB SUMMARY

The R&D Engineer would assist in the development, design, and implementation of new technologies.  For the right candidate, the position would have a range of responsibilities from bench-top process development to larger-scale commercialization projects including our new French fry manufacturing facility in Rochester, NY.  The individual would work in symbiosis with the Operations and R&D teams, bridging the gap between early stage concepts and commercial-scale implementation.

  • Equipment in the operations facility is optimized, improved, and replaced as needed; downtime is minimized, and output continually improved;

  • You approach new product development with creativity and an understanding of mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering principles;

  • You flow seamlessly between the research lab, operations facility, engineering team, and business team, collaborating effectively with a holistic understanding of commercialization from bench-top to manufacturing production; 

  • Through your insight, technical expertise, and comprehensive understanding of Farther Farms’ mission, products, and processes, you are seen as an indispensable member of the company on its path to developing never-before-possible products and innovative technological solutions.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • 3+ years of equipment manufacturing or related experience;

  • A multidisciplinary knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering principles; 

  • A creative, entrepreneurial, collaborative work style;

  • Experience with 3D CAD software and microprocessors, food processing technologies, and Lean Six Sigma is preferred. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Engineering and Process Development:

  • Generate ideas for new processes and researching feasibility based on an in-depth understanding of the company’s processing technology, regulation compliance, resource availability, and business strategy;

  • Lead engineering and development of processes from concept to prototype to launch;

  • Create new processes using mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge;

  • Assist with the scale-up of bench top processes;

  • Lead preparation of comprehensive process documentation to enable smooth commercialization and training of plant personnel, and meet internal and external audit requirement including regulatory compliance;

  • Author or contribute to technical proposals, grants proposals, summaries, presentations, and project reports;

  • Oversee general lab administration, organization, documentation, lab notebooks, and invention records; maintain records of product quality checks, preventive controls and pre-requisite programs; develop and maintain product specification sheets and labels according to regulatory requirements.

Operational:

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all manufacturing operations, end-products, raw materials, packaging materials, and quality specifications and standards;

  • Collaborate with the Operations and Quality teams to build new processes and make improvements and modifications to existing processes in the manufacturing facility;

  • Assist with production trial runs on the production line, making improvements and modifications as needed;

  • Lead optimization of processes for cost, efficiency, and essential attributes;

  • Aid in writing LOTO equipment procedures, SOPs, and SSOPs.

 

COMPENSATION AND POSITION DETAILS

This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.  Compensation commensurate with experience.
